Body Scrubbing for dry winter skin defence

How Himalayan Salt can Exfoliate and Soften your Skin

Now that the days are shorter and the temperatures have dropped, you may notice that your skin feels drier and is less effective at retaining moisture. It’s a no win situation, because you have the harsh, dry air outside as well as dry air indoors as a result of indoor heating.

Not all hope is lost, however. Exfoliation and extra moisture is your best defence against dry, itchy skin. Read on to discover all the top benefits of exfoliation as well as how to do it yourself at home so that you can enjoy silky, soft and healthy skin all winter long!

Why exfoliation is so important

Our bodies are constantly producing new skin cells to replace those that naturally die off. Often our bodies need a little help to rid itself of all the dead skin cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin. When these dead cells accumulate without being exfoliated off they can wreak havoc on the skin by clogging pores, which contributes to dull, unhealthy looking and aged skin.

Exfoliation gets rid of all the dead skin cells as well as speeds up cell turnover. This results in:

  • Softer, smoother skin
  • More radiant skin
  • A healthy glow
  • Fewer blackheads
  • Fewer fine lines and wrinkles

Exfoliation also contributes to hydrated skin as the emerging new cells, right under the surface, bring with them important lipids as well as essential moisture.

Benefits of Himalayan Salt as an exfoliant

Himalayan sea salt is the purest salt in the world and the perfect choice for natural exfoliation. It is a powerful detoxifier as it helps to draw toxins out of the skin and it is rich in more than 80 important minerals, including magnesium, potassium and calcium. Himalayan salt will exfoliate your skin leaving it baby soft, whilst offering wonderful therapeutic benefits at the same time.

We’ve added organic virgin coconut oil to our Himalayan Scrub for an incredible moisturising experience! Coconut oil is high in saturated fats, which leaves the skin beautifully soft as it helps the skin to retain moisture.

The addition of Rosehip oil provides you with powerful anti-aging benefits due to its high content of essential fatty acids and skin loving, antioxidant vitamins A, C and E.

We have also added the uplifting scents of lemon and rose geranium essential oils for a home-spa experience!

How to do it at home

Shower or bathe as normal and start with damp skin. Scoop some of the scrub out of
the jar with a spoon. We don’t recommend using wet hands, because getting water into the scrub will shorten its life span. Massage the scrub into your skin in circular motions for a minute or 2 before rinsing off. Your skin will feel amazing!

Be sure to follow up with a good moisturiser such as one of our Shea Souffles to  keep dry winter skin firmly at bay!
